4/20 Sales Surged for Dispensaries in 2025
4/20 sales smashed expectations in 2025, with record-breaking dispensary traffic and margin gains. Here's what went down.

Dispensaries across the U.S. once again proved that 4/20 is one of the cannabis industry's most powerful opportunities to drive sales, with 2025 bringing record-setting numbers.
According to data from Sweed, cannabis retailers saw an 81% increase in total products sold and a 65% jump in unique buyers compared to the previous year. Margins also improved notably, rising from 38.1% in 2024 to 50.4% in 2025.
Consumer behavior shifted slightly this year, with many choosing to shop earlier in the weekend. Saturday, April 19, outpaced Sunday in total revenue, driven by strategic promotions and early 4/20 celebrations.
In New Jersey, the momentum was undeniable. As reported by Heady NJ, dispensaries generated approximately $14.76 million in total sales over the 4/20 weekend. Friday, April 18, alone saw $5.25 million in sales—up sharply from about $9.8 million total during the 2024 4/20 weekend.
New York also showed impressive energy. According to StupidDope, dispensaries in Brooklyn and Manhattan saw long lines, heavy foot traffic, and midday sellouts of popular products — marking one of the state's strongest cannabis retail days since legalization.
A breakdown of product categories from Jane Technologies showed familiar favorites leading the way:
Flower: 41%
Vape Products: 27%
Edibles: 14%
Pre-rolls: 10%
Extracts: 6%
This year’s 4/20 performance reaffirms the cannabis holiday’s staying power — and offers a strong signal of the industry’s growing retail sophistication and consumer loyalty.
