Here’s what's good to know this week.

Hemp-Drink Cutoffs Land In Mid-November

Illinois locks its hemp-drink cutoff on Nov. 12, and New Jersey's Nov. 13 stop stands unless S4635, which passed the Senate 37-0 on Oct. 22, clears the Assembly and floats the date to Dec. 11 or later. After each state's cliff, drinks over a low total-THC line, often 0.4 mg per container, are treated as cannabis and sold only through licensed shops, so our playbook says to map every THC drink SKU before your state's cliff date and to treat vendor share-shift math as unverified pitch.

Michigan Pulls The Plug On Muha Meds Ypsilanti

Michigan's regulator revoked the store's license and fined it $251,250 after staff split influencer orders, roughly 487 vape carts in one run, to dodge oversale warnings. The company argued no single ticket broke the limit. The state didn't buy it, and our breakdown covers what to check in your own store before a regulator does.

The Seven Deadly Budtender Sins

Colorado reports a 99% pass rate on underage checks, so most budtenders get it right. When it goes wrong, it starts small: a split ticket, a glanced-at ID, a tag typed in by hand. We ranked seven counter mistakes by the damage they've done, with the real enforcement case behind each one.

A Five-Minute Huddle For Every Shift

Our follow-up turns each sin into a line on a scored Excel checklist built from real Michigan, Oregon, Maryland and Maine enforcement cases. Managers mark every sin Pass, Fail or N/A, and a Fail on limits, ID or recalls means telling the GM before close, so download a printable shift checklist scored pass, fail or N/A and run it at opening.

Budtender Unions Win Votes As Fired Workers Allege Retaliation

Workers at Greenlight Dispensary in Joplin, Mo., voted 18-2 for UFCW Local 2, and a Chillicothe, Ohio, unit voted 10-6 for Local 1059. In Springfield, Mo., a former Greenlight employee says 12 workers were fired after a union-organizing meeting, an unproven allegation with no agency finding, and Greenlight says it does not comment on personnel matters. Our guide for both sides of the counter covers your rights, who counts as a supervisor, and New Jersey's court fight.

Massachusetts Weighs A Badge That Follows The Budtender

The Cannabis Control Commission is choosing between an employee list that keeps liability on the licensee and portable badges that put it on the agent. Commissioners took no vote on Oct. 22 and moved the question to Nov. 12, and our analysis argues portable badges are a step toward licensing individual budtenders, which the industry can shape by policing itself now.
